MOSAIC Mentors make a difference by being consistent positive forces in the lives of the young people they mentor. Mentors use art, music and other creative resources to introduce and discuss concepts such as stereotypes, culture, the fantasy of gang life, relationships and dating violence, girl and guy talk, budgeting, higher education and career exploration. CSUN students that are accepted into the MOSAIC Program receive training and guidance throughout the fall semester by enrolling in a 3-unit Sociology class for MOSAIC Mentors. Sociology 496Z meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 12:30-1:45. MOSAIC combines classroom learning with service to the community for the ultimate leadership experience! Only students who are accepted into the MOSAIC Program may enroll in this course.
MOSAIC is funded by Learn and Serve America and is recruiting 40 CSUN students to serve as MOSAIC Mentors for at-risk youth in local after-school programs in the valley. MOSAIC Mentors work together to build positive relationships with middle and high school students, help with homework, and implement creative enrichment and recreational activities.
