MOSAIC (Mentoring to Overcome Struggles and Inspire Courage) is a program at California State University, Northridge, where 40 CSUN students serve as mentors for at-risk youth in local after-school programs. MOSAIC mentors work together to build positive relationships with middle and high school students to create a sense of family by motivating and fostering the ability to make positive choices that make the youth believe in their own potential to succeed.
The community youth are provided with homework help and projects involving art, music, dance, photography, journalism, field trips, and community events. They are also introduced to and discuss topics involving stereotypes, gang life, drugs and alcohol, relationships and dating violence, health, career exploration, and higher education.
MOSAIC is funded by Learn and Serve America

How much time does it really take to change a life?
Many people say they would like to volunteer but do not have time because of school and work. Just an hour a week of sharing your talents, interests, or hobbies can help change these sad facts:
“It is estimated that Los Angeles has over 400 gangs with 65,000 participants. Of these gang members approximately 90% will be arrested by age 18, 95% will not finish high school, and 60% will be dead or in prison by age 20.” - Source
